Finished texturing and painting the trees on the doll house. They are too shiny after all the coats of paint, so I need to add a coat or two of mat acrylic finish to seal them…. then that job is done! I am probably being way too picky! I repainted 3 times before I was happy with the result.
To achieve the bark look, I used a bottle of crackle finish that I have had for more than 10 years. It still worked, but it took a bit of a learning curve. It would have made sense to practice on something else, but no, I jumped right in on the trees trunks! The instructions said to paint the crackle finish on, let it dry until tacky, then paint a thin layer of paint over it. The first two times, it didn’t work very well, so I was sure my finish was too old. On the third try I layered the paint over the crackle medium while I it was still wet…..and twala, it worked!
