A World for Fairies

My granddaughters opened their A Date to Create for February. Our project is a World for Fairies… which will be creating a small world fairy garden in a box.

I spent time going through my stash for finds to put into their fairy garden boxes. After assembling all of my “on hand” materials, I decided to make toadstools, fairy parasols and glitter rocks from things I had on hand. When all was put together, the only purchased items just for this project, were the boxes, rice that I colored, and the fairy doll to live in their gardens.

Last year we had a fairy and butterfly day. Margo and Helen made fairy houses from packaging cartons and painted them with glitter paint…I kept them so I could add them to the fairy gardens this year.

THIS IS MY FAIRY BOX ON A BUDGET…

I like most crafters have lots of stuff on hand that I use for many projects – like paint, glue, and glitter, so I am not including that in my expenses.

THINGS I HAD ON HAND IN MY STUDIO. I didn’t buy them for this project, but I did buy them at some point:

Fairy Lights (bought a pkg of 6 last Christmas for $8.99). $1.50

Bag of Shells I purchased at Goodwill for $1.99 for a nature day. I used 3 (there were 50 of them)….so about 5 cent

Plastic Jewels (purchased a bag for making kaleidoscope for January’s craft day $4.99 – still have lots left). 50 cents

Feathers (purchased a bag from a thrift store years ago for .99). 15 cents

Cellophane (I bought a roll for some project years ago…part of my stash). 25 cents

Sparkly pipe cleaners (bought for another fairy project). 10 cents

Fake flowers for parasols – purchased a bunch at Goodwill for 2.99 (used for several projects). 50 cents

TOTAL ON HAND $3.05

FREE STUFF:

Glass stones (my daughter gave them to me),

Capis shells (I saved a lamp from the garbage at my daughters house)

Rocks (I painted, and glittered)

Toadstools made from air dry clay that I made from kitchen staples

Nail polish that I painted the shells with was given to me, or I would have painted them with glitter paint.

Wood blocks cut from cherry tree limb prunings

STUFF I BOUGHT JUST FOR THIS PROJECT:

fancy box from Walmart. $2.79

1.5 lbs of white rice $4.00

Fairy Doll $2.00

TOTAL PURCHASED FOR THIS PROJECT $8.79

TOTAL FOR THE BOX $11.84
